Convict breaks court window, stabs self after bagging life sentence

A convict who bagged life imprisonment for rape, Ajewole Dada, on Friday went wild as he hit the court’s window, broke the louvers, stabbed himself with it and attempted to stab other people inside the courtroom.

Ajewole, 24, was sentenced for life imprisonment by an Ekiti State High Court on Friday for robbing, kidnapping and raping two female students of the College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti on 7th November, 2015 along Ikere-Igbara Odo Road.
While handling over the verdict by Justice John Adeyeye, the convict became emotional, furious and restless after the judgment was interpreted to him by the court registrar.
The judge said that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
The court was thrown into confusion as court workers, litigants and other observers were shocked by the convict’s behaviour, but the security personnel quickly grabbed the convict from inflicting injuries on people inside the court.
The security personnel subsequently handcuffed and bundled him into a ‘Black Maria’.
